Grandstreet Theatre is seeking an experienced Technical Director to join our production team. The Technical Director job is an exempt, full-time, year round, salaried position with excellent health benefits. Salary $35-40K D.O.E.
About Our Theatre
Grandstreet Theatre is a 42-year-old community-powered Montana institution that produces approximately 10 shows each year. We have a 200-seat house in a beautiful turn-of-the-century stone building in the heart of downtown Helena, Montana. We are a 501c3 nonprofit with an annual budget of over $800k. Nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountains in a small but thriving arts community, Grandstreet enjoys tremendous public support and is consistently producing some of the best theatre in the Northwest.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Technical Director will be responsible for constructing or sourcing scenery for all events and shows, maintaining our scene shop and storage areas in a safe and secure manner consistent with all OSHA regulations, supervising and training scene shop staff (including seasonal, intern, and volunteer labor) and managing all show and seasonal budgets that relate to the shop. Qualified candidates should first and foremost have excellent scenic carpentry skills and a love for theatrical collaboration. Additional desired skills include scenic, lighting and sound design rigging and welding experience, prop construction, scenic painting, CAD drafting, AV skills and a solid knowledge of modern (and preferably sustainable) methods of constructing scenery. Must have proven leadership ability, teamwork skills, and a strong work ethic. Must be able to work well with children and volunteers to foster a culture of safety, efficiency and education. Excellent organization, time management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at once is a must. Should be able to lift 75 pounds, be comfortable working at heights exceeding 25’, and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and clean background check. Ideal candidate has an MFA or a BFA/BA in technical theatre, at least 2 years professional experience and an excellent sense of humor.
