Grandstreet Theatre Alum Returns to Take the Helm as the Managing Director.

After a national search, Grandstreet Theatre’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Kal Poole has accepted the position of managing director.

“Kal Poole brings enthusiasm, vision, and a breadth of experience including grant writing, theatre administration and working with theatre education programs to his role at Grandstreet. Kal grew up in Grandstreet Theatre and has extensive family and friends in Helena,” states Board member and search committee chair, Mignon Waterman.

After more than 18 years, Tom Cordingley announced his retirement at the end of this summer. Grandstreet’s Board of Directors began a national search for his replacement. Grandstreet received 15 applications and after narrowing and interviewing the field, the Board has selected Kal.

Kal Poole states “Grandstreet Theatre is where I grew up and why I do what I do. I have been dreaming about one day coming home to run Grandstreet since I won the Wib and Esther M. Harrer Scholarship sixteen years ago. Grandstreet has a strong track record and a talented, energetic staff. I am passionate about the people, the history and mission of Grandstreet and there is nowhere I would rather be.”

Kal, who is expected to start in early August, has a Masters of Fine Arts from the Ohio State University and was most recently the Managing Director of the Whistling in the Dark Theatre Company in Columbus, Ohio. Kal graduated from Capital High School and attended Grandstreet Theatre School. Kal and his wife, Angela Wysong Poole, have two daughters and will reunite with a large extended family here in the Helena area.

“We have a great team at Grandstreet and Kal is going to be a perfect addition to that team. He brings some great experience and a true passion for the arts that started right here at Grandstreet,” said Board president Beth Yeakel.

Kal will join the existing GST staff of Marianne Adams (Director of Education), Adam Wagner (Artistic Director), Matthew Gibbons (Technical Director) and Katie Sorenson (Box Office).
