Hiring Custodian/Carpenter Position

Custodian/Carpenter (Part-Time/Morning Shift)

$10 an hour – Part-time approximately 20 hours per week

Grandstreet is currently hiring a part-time Custodian/Carpenter position.

Morning shift – 8am – 12:00pm

Grandstreet Theatre is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit arts organization.

Mission: To brighten Helena, Montana and elevate the human spirit through live theatre and theatre education.

Grandstreet is Montana’s premiere community theatre with over 40 years of continuous service. Sustained by volunteers from an exceptionally talented population, Grandstreet also trains over 400 K-12 students each year in our nationally recognized Grandstreet Theatre School. Each year we produce 10-12 plays and musicals in a beautifully preserved 200-seat turn-of-the-century Romanesque granite church. Nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountains in a small but thriving arts community, Grandstreet enjoys tremendous public support and regularly produces some of the best live theatre in the Northwest.

 

CUSTODIAL POSITION

This half of the position is estimated for roughly two hours per weekday (8-10 am). The hours will vary based upon shows schedules for the theatre. Shifts will vary weekly as well as by season. Hours may range up to 20 hours per week. As the custodian you will be responsible for cleaning the theatre and maintaining the building as follows:

*–  Cleaning, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors by hand or machine; cleaning carpet, upholstery and furniture.

*–  Washing windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls, and ceilings.

*–  Ordering and stocking needed materials and supplies.

*–  Cleaning and sanitizing rest rooms, dusting and vacuuming rooms, locking and unlocking doors; moving equipment and furniture.

*–  Collecting and disposing of waste, shoveling snow, maintaining outside sidewalks, and assisting in keeping outside premises in an orderly condition.

*–  Providing maintenance and minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC and sprinkler systems; may perform routine carpentry work.

*–  Performing some repairs and maintenance of buildings by patching walls and doors, painting walls and trim, and replacing fixtures and partitions; replacing damaged ceiling and floor tiles, repairing carpet and auditorium seats.

*–  Mowing and fertilizing lawn, plants and maintaining flower beds, irrigating and maintaining irrigation system. Trimming trees and spraying for insects.

*– Setting up and taking down tables and chairs for classes and programs.

 

CARPENTRY POSITION

This half of the position is estimated for roughly two hours per weekday (10am -12pm). The hours will vary based upon shows schedules for the theatre. Shifts will vary weekly as well as by season. Hours may range up to 25 hours per week. As the carpenter you may responsible for any of the following duties as specified by the Technical Director:

*–   Carpentry projects for scenic construction.

*–   Rigging and/or engineering of scenic elements.

*–  Ordering and stocking needed materials and supplies.

*–  Cleaning and maintaining the scene shop, paint shop, storage areas and equipment.

*–  Painting projects related to scenic construction.

*–  Prop location, construction and maintenance.

*–  Supervising volunteers and interns.

*–  Organizing storage areas and creating storage solutions.

*– Additional duties may include electrical work, theatrical lighting, sound wrangling, welding, sewing, fine carpentry, and tap dancing.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

3. Must communicate to Supervisor with questions or concerns in a timely manner

4. Is expected to work in a respectful manner with others

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Ability to lift at least 50lbs and carry it up two flights of stairs.

2. Ability to work on your feet for up to 6 hours.

3. Ability to operate simple cleaning machinery (for example: vacuums, extractors, buffers, etc.)

4. Ability to operate carpentry equipment (for example: drill, chop saw, table saw, grinder, etc.)

4. Comfortable working in confined, wide-open or high spaces.

5. Must be able to work with a variety of cleaning and painting products.
