HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL
takes on a new, fresh life when it appears onstage. A younger generation has discovered the fresh, optimistic spirit of this infectious musical. GRANDSTREET THEATRE is proud to let their voices be heard, with a message that is not just for kids, but for everyone.

Disney’s High School Musical began as a made-for-television movie. It quickly became the one of the most watched events in TV history. In 2006, the show swept through the awards season, winning with the Emmy, Teen Choice, American Music, TV Critics and Billboards Music Awards. Two sequels followed, with a third on its way. The talented kids from High School Musical are now known by school-aged kids across the world.

Now Grandstreet lets Helena’s talented kids to tell the tale. Newcomers to High School Musical will delight in the upbeat music and dance. Fans of the show can experience new musical numbers, written just for the stage show. The story is much the same: Basketball jock Troy and “brainiac” Gabriella defy the odds in this 21st century Romeo and Juliet. As the couple battles for the lead in the school musical, the also have to face the toughest clique of all: the Theatre geeks.

Former Artistic Director Blair Bybee returns to direct and choreograph the production, his fifth time working with the show. “There’s a real story in the stage adaptation,” says Bybee, who relishes working with the kids on the show. “Is it stereotypical? Absolutely, because stereotypes are real conflicts in everyone’s life. What makes High School Musical special is how the characters really try to take the high road, to accept people’s differences. And there’s nothing trite in that.”

High School Musical stars JOHN BRASSARD as Troy, and STEPHANIE ZARLING as Gabriella. BELLA DELONG and RALEIGH NORDHAGEN play the super siblings, Sharpay and Ryan Evans. The cast is completed with 26 kids and two adults, in an hour-and-a-half of onstage music and fun.

Come see what everyone’s been raving about: Disney’s High School Musical onstage at Grandstreet Theatre. It’s a show you never knew you would love!
