Auditions

November 11 – 13 / 7:00 – 9:30 PM / Those who audition should arrive at 7:00but may not need to stay until 9:30.

Rehearsal Dates

November 18, 2013 – January 16, 2014

Rehearsals are flexible and are generally held Sunday through Thursdayevenings.  There will be time off for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Performance Dates

January 17, 2014 – February 1, 2014

Wednesdays through Sundays (12 shows total)

Grandstreet Theatre Studio is located at 328 Fuller Avenue (downtown across from Valley Bank)

What to Prepare

Please be prepared to sing a short musical selection that is one to two minutes in length.  Songs in the style of the musical are recommended.  A piano accompanist will be provided, so please come with sheet music for your song.

Seeking the Following Roles

DIANA: Thirties or forties, mother of two.  Sometimes sharp and sometimes distant.  Delusional bipolar depressive.  Requires an impressive vocal range (from driving rock to emotional ballads.)

DAN: Thirties or forties, Diana’s husband.  Handsome, genuine, constant, tired.

GABE: Teenager.  Diana’s son.  Dashing, gentle, bright, playful.  Everything a mother would want in a son.

NATALIE: Teenager.  Diana’s daughter.  She is trying to be perfect.  It’s not going well.  Intelligent and stressed.

HENRY: Teenager.  Natalie’s friend.  Musician, romantic, stoner, slacker, philosopher king.

DR. MADDEN: On the young side of ageless.  Charismatic and assured.

About the Show

This Pulitzer Prize winning rock musical, with it’s brave and stirring songs, will grab your heart and refuse to let go.  Next to Normal explores how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness.  This contemporary musical is an emotional powerhouse that addresses such issues as grieving a loss, ethics in modern psychiatry, and suburban life.  With provocative lyrics and a thrilling score, this musical shows how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane and their family’s world intact.  Next to Normal is a deeply moving piece of theatre that has rocked the musical scene since its Broadway debut in 2009.
